INEC: Focus on upcoming elections, not probing the past – Ubani to Amupitan

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Monday Ubani, has advised the newly confirmed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Joash Amupitan, to focus on upcoming elections instead of probing the past administration.

Ubani gave this advice on Friday while responding to questions in an interview on Arise Television, monitored by DAILY POST.

His advice is coming barely 24 hours after Prof Amupitan was confirmed as the substantial chairman of Nigeria’s electoral body.

“While reviewing the past has its merits, it should not be the primary focus of the new INEC leadership.

“With the Anambra election imminent, the Chairman’s priority should be to restore Nigerians’ trust in the institution.

“This election will serve as a crucial litmus test. Academically, Prof. Amupitan is well-qualified and possesses the necessary credentials to succeed.

“However, his lack of experience in handling such a major responsibility might be a slight disadvantage,” he said.
