Ikenna Ukwa Shines Brighter Than Ever as NDDC Hands Over Solar Streetlight Project Site in Amaekpu, Elu Ohafia

The landscape of Ohafia was set ablaze with excitement on Friday, July 4, 2025, as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) officially handed over the site for the installation of over 400 units of solar-powered street lights to Kaplan Consults Limited, a project attracted by none other than Hon. Ikenna Nicolas Ukwa.

Unlike many political promises that vanish after elections, Ikenna Ukwa’s name continues to ring in every street corner, as he has yet again delivered what some sitting officeholders have failed to achieve.
The project is targeted at Amaekpu and Elu communities in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State and is aimed at enhancing security, economic activities, and night-time social life in the region.
The handover ceremony, held at the palaces of HRM Prince Engr. Agbai Uma Olugu (Regent Ezieogo of Elu Ohafia) and HRH Ezie Engr. Awa Nwankwo (Ezieogo Amaekpu Ohafia), drew the who-is-who in Ohafia politics. Prominent APC leaders such as Engr. George Nnanna Kalu, High Chief Uche Ogboso, Hon. Mba Ukaha, Chief Lucas Uche Eme Onuh, and Chief Mrs. Ezinne Udo Kalu were all in attendance — each echoing one name: Ikenna Ukwa.
Engr. Idris Rasaq, who led the NDDC Abia team, urged the communities to provide a peaceful atmosphere for the contractor to deliver the project within specifications and deadline.
But what stole the show was the overwhelming praise from traditional rulers, who lauded Ukwa’s track record of development-driven leadership. The Ezieogo of Amaekpu went further to declare that Ikenna Ukwa’s “impact is greater than some elected representatives” and revealed why the community conferred him with the revered chieftaincy title, “Omezimba 1 of Amaekpu Ohafia.”
“He has truly brought light to Ohafia — both literally and figuratively. He’s our illustrious son, and we’re proud to stand behind him,” the traditional leaders said.
Community leaders didn’t mince words as they called on political stakeholders across Arochukwu and Ohafia to rally behind Ukwa in his future ambitions, describing him as a “dogged strategist who delivers where others talk.”
Chief Onyema Agbai described the project as a divine answer to years of communal prayers, adding that the project will boost security and nightlife in the area, creating more economic opportunities for residents.
Speaking through his representative, Mr. Richard Ukwa Richard De’ Angelo, Hon. Ikenna Ukwa reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to lighting up and lifting up every part of Abia North. He emphasized that the solar streetlight initiative has already covered Ebem, Oboro, Okon, and Arochukwu communities — with plans underway to expand into other parts of Ohafia North.
Engr. Lawrence Azike Chike of Kaplan Consults Limited disclosed that the project would feature over 400 units of 8-meter-high, 100-watt solar-powered street lights, with installation expected to begin immediately and completed within one month.
The event concluded with the formal signing of the site handover contract by NDDC representatives, community leaders, and the contractor.
