Nigeria has secured a deal with the world’s largest Chinese solar panel manufacturer for the establishment of its factory in Nigeria to boost local production of solar equipment.

The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), in a statement, revealed that it facilitates the landmark deal on behalf of the federal government with LONGi of China.

This comes during a follow-up visit of a federal government delegation to Chinese parties.

Under the partnership, the solar panel manufacturer agreed to set up a one thousand megawattcapacity solar panel production factory in Nigeria to meet the growing demand for renewable energy.

In his remarks, Director General of ECN, Dr Abdullahi Mustapha, said the deal marks a significant milestone in the renewable energy landscape and aligns with Nigeria’s efforts to expand solar manufacturing capacity.

“The Energy Commission of Nigeria is currently implementing the renewed hope solarisation programme of the present administration aimed at accelerating deployment of solar mini grids to public institutions across the country, and the establishment of a solar panel production factory in the country, the DG says, will boost implementation of the intervention as well as create jobs,” the statement reads.

Recall that earlier in the year, the Nigerian government, through ECN, signed a memorandum of understanding with LONGi of China for local production of solar panels.

Director General of ECN, Dr Abdullahi Mustapha, says the deal marks a significant milestone in the renewable energy landscape and aligns with Nigeria’s efforts to expand solar manufacturing capacity.
