The Matasan Arewa Youth Development Initiative has expressed disappointment over what it described as the continued exclusion of northern youths from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking at a press briefing in Kano, the group’s National Coordinator, Abba Muhammad, said many young people who worked tirelessly to ensure Tinubu’s victory during the 2023 general elections have been neglected.

“We campaigned, we mobilized, and we ensured victory. Yet, almost two years into this administration, the young people of Arewa who stood at the forefront of this political struggle have been ignored,” Abba said.

According to him, the group had expected the government to prioritize youth inclusion in appointments and policymaking but noted that most young northerners have been sidelined.

“We are not asking for favors or handouts. We are asking for recognition, inclusion, and a fair opportunity to contribute to national development,” he added.

Abba also announced plans by the group to embark on an awareness tour across the 19 northern states, aimed at sensitizing communities on youth participation and representation in governance.

“The tour will help us reconnect with our people and reignite political consciousness among northern youths. It is time to remind our leaders that youth inclusion is essential to nation-building,” he said.

He commended President Tinubu for creating the Ministry of Livestock, describing it as a step in the right direction, but urged him to extend the same consideration to young people who actively supported his campaign.

The group also appealed to key stakeholders in the All Progressives Congress (APC) to honor their campaign promises and involve more competent youths in decision-making positions.

“The awareness campaign will begin in Kano State later this month and will include town hall meetings, media engagements, and community outreach programs designed to strengthen civic participation across the North,” he added.
