More people die in Nigeria than countries at war – Peter Obi laments

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has once again lamented the worsening security situation in Nigeria.
In a post on his verified X handle on Sunday, Obi said more Nigerians die daily than in countries at war, stressing that it is not normal.
The former Anambra State governor was reacting to the security situation in Kogi and Kwara states, where many people were killed in recent bandit attacks.
He stated that leadership must be about protecting lives and property, adding that it is the most basic duty of any government.
“I am deeply disturbed by the tragic reports of yet another senseless attack in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi state, where over 27 innocent Nigerians were killed by armed bandits.
“This comes as reports from neighbouring Kwara state say that nine out of 16 LGs in Kwara state are under bandits’ siege, who now demand food and drinks as ransom.
“The security situation is now a national emergency. It is deeply troubling that insecurity has become a normal occurrence in our nation, where our citizens die daily more than in countries at war. This is not normal,” he wrote.
