2026 WCQ: Bassey optimistic Super Eagles will deliver ticket
Fulham defender, Calvin Bassey has said the Super Eagles must keep believing they can secure a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite their precarious position in Group C, NEWS9JA reports.
The Super Eagles sit in third position in the group with 11 points.
Joint leaders Benin Republic, and South Africa are on 14 points each.
Eric Chelle’s side will be up against Lesotho in a matchday nine encounter in Polokwane on Friday.
They will then host Benin at home next week Tuesday.
Victory in both games might still not be enough as they will need Benin and South Africa to drop points for them to qualify for the World Cup.
Bassey’s declared they have enough experience to handle the pressure.
“To remain calm and do what we have to. I think this is not the first time, club or country, anyone of us have been in a high pressure moment,” he told the Super Eagles media.
“So, I think we have got an experienced team to handle this situation. It is just about making sure we do everything right.”
